BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD SCIENCE FAIR

In what's sure to be one of the most highly-anticipated debut's in a long time, Black Country, New Road have finally announced For the first time. Opening with an ominous, understated bass line, its lead track 'Science Fair' immediately catches you by surprise as an attack of distorted guitar ensures that's you're paying attention before vocalist/guitarist Isaac Wood's idiosyncratic lyrics kick in. Hitting numerous painfully on-the-nose reference points, the first recorded taste of the album is thankfully as visceral and exhilarating as their live shows. Maintaining huge jumps in dynamics which range from hushed vocal sections and quiet interludes that let Georgia Ellery (Jockstrap)'s strings shine through, to synth-lead detours and unhinged full band onslaughts, helmed by Lewis Evans' deranged sax playing, 'Science Fair' has it all. For the first time will arrive via Ninja Tune on the 5th of February. -Holly Mullineaux
